The betting public at Century Downs was all over Icy Blue Scooter in his quest to double up in Tuesday’s $8,100 Open Pace, and the veteran gelding didn’t disappoint his backers.
The eight-year-old son of Blue Burner-Jills Scooter quarter poled-moved to the lead in the Tuesday feature for trainer/driver Nathan Sobey and that proved to be the winning move.
Icy Blue Scooter was second and parked past the opening quarter in :28 before eventually working his way to the top over early leader Retros Mystery.
Once in command of the tempo, Icy Blue Scooter ripped through fractions of :57.1 and 1:24.4 before using a :29.2 closing quarter en route to winning by a half-length margin over Crackle N Burn in 1:54.1. Outlaw Gunsablazing took home third prize in the six-horse affair.
Sent off at odds of 1-5, Icy Blue Scooter improved his 2021 record to 6-3-2 from 14 starts for Sobey and partners Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy. The 35-time winner has now banked over $267,000 to date.
