Fresh off a front-end 1:58 score last week, Emmalulu ($6.70) just reached from the pocket to capture Wednesday night’s (October 11) featured $9,000 trotting event at Flamboro Downs.
With 8-5 favourite Pollar Hall having eliminated himself at the outset due to a break in stride, Emmalulu had an easy time working to the pocket behind South Wind Bax (Stephen Byron), who protected inside position on the first turn and assumed the pacesetting duties. The four-year-old daughter of Amigo Hall sat patiently behind fractions of :28.3, :59, and 1:28.3, enjoying clear sailing throughout.
Emmalulu made the winning move with three-sixteenths to go, as Alfie Carroll angled her off the pegs to give chase to South Wind Bax. Emmalulu, under an all-out drive in the stretch, reached the lead in the last stride of her 1:58.4 mile; she not only collared South Wind Bax, but also held off a sustained inside charge from eventual runner-up Summit City Turbo (Bob McClure) by a neck.
Trainer Corrie German shares ownership in the nine-time winner with Brenda German.
Carroll and J Harris led all drivers with two wins apiece on the 10-race program.
