Unabating overcame his assigned outside post position during the first quarter and cruised home to score his third straight victory on Sunday night in Rideau Carleton Raceway's featured $6,500 Winners Over Handicap Trot.
Unabating ($4.20), driven by Guy Gagnon, floated off the gate from post six and eventually worked his way to the lead over Out Of The Hat and Rocky Boy during the :28.1 opening panel. He cleared at the quarter-pole and then led the field through middle splits of :58.2 and 1:27.3. Will To Do advanced first over into second-place outside of Out Of The Hat, who tried to close in the passing lane, but Unabating finished one and a half lengths in front, stopping the clock in 1:57.1. Out Of The Hat settled for second and Will To Do was third.
Unabating has won seven times in 19 starts this year. Sunday's victory pushed his annual income to $32,682 for Rideau's leading conditioner Gerard Demers. A 15-time career winner, Unabating is approaching the $200,000 earnings mark. The seven-year-old Broadway Hall gelding is owned by Catheline Pelletier of Mirabel, Que. and Les Ecuries GLD Inc. of St-Andre-Avelin, Que.
The win was the second in a row on the card for Gagnon and Demers, who also scored with claiming pacer Doing Some Damage ($7.40).
