Three-year-old pacing colts Withflyingcolours and Cool Cowboy won their respective $10,000 eliminations for Alberta Maverick on Sunday at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.

After trainer Keith Clark's sophomore fillies swept Saturday's Marquis eliminations, the Hall of Fame horseman guided Withflyingcolours to victory lane in Sunday's first Maverick elimination.

Withflyingcolours tracked Outlaw Deacon Jim through panels of :29.2, :58.3 and 1:28.1 before overtaking him in the final turn en route to the 1:59.1 victory. Rare Breed followed the winner's cover and finished one and a quarter lengths behind in second while Chillinlikeavillin edged out Outlaw Deacon Jim back in fourth-place.

The Blue Burner-Red Star Sugar Gal gelding, who was the runner-up in the Plainsman Final in July, is owned by Robert Jones of Slave Lake, Alta. and Doris McDougall of Cochrane, Alta.

The second elimination was won by the front-striding Cool Cowboy and trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt for co-owners Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. and Witsend Consulting Inc. of Calgary, Alta.

The popular Brandons Cowboy-Cool Grin colt, who won the Marksman Final on Sept. 6, quickly took the lead and carved out fractions of :28.2, :57.2 and 1:27 en route to the three and three-quarter length victory in 1:56.1. Johnny Gunn followed in second-place and Royal Renegade was third.
