Although facing poor visibility over the sloppy track on Friday night at Fraser Downs, horseman Bill Davis is all too familiar with the path to the winner's circle. After a six-win performance on Thursday night, Davis' big week continued as he collected six more victories including one in the co-featured $50,000 Tom Burke Memorial Pace.
Davis' biggest win of the night came in the 10th race stakes event for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings as he retook the lead just past the quarter-mile mark with Need You So Bad ($2.80) and steered clear to a 1:56.2 victory. Just Hank finished one and a quarter length behind off a pocket trip, with Premium Stock following in third.
Davis trains the American Ideal-Sendingforth gelding, who was also victorious in a leg of the B.C. Breeders Stakes this meet, for the J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C.
Davis trainees went four-for-four on the 11-race card. The Langley, B.C. horseman earned victories with another B.C. Breeders Stakes hopeful Makeing The Mark ($6.70), Fraser Downs newcomer Haroun Hanover ($5.50) and Open pacer Thunder Noise ($10.20). He also drove Friday winners No More This Time ($8.70) for trainer Heather Sifert and Blurricane ($23.00) for Paul Urquhart.
In the co-featured $50,000 Sharon Renkers Memorial Pace for sophomore fillies, T Squared ($4.80) and trainer/driver Rick White overcame an outside post eight start to prevail in 2:00.2.
"I just said we have to make the best of it, that's all we can do," said White of the unfavourable post position. And that's what the duo did, clearing past the quarter pole and then holding off the pocket-pulling Jennys Big Book by half a length. The winner's stablemate, Coastal Treasure, closed from the backfield and survived a driver's objection for third-place honours.
White also co-owns the lightly raced Allamerican Cobalt-Samantha Square filly with June Kauffman of Woodinville, Washington.
