After coming up a nose short in her latest outing, Buttermilk Hanover overcame early interference to win Thursday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 at Flamboro Downs.
The field scattered early to get around a breaking Anderson Seelster, who bothered all but one of the starters in the six-horse affair. Buttermilk Hanover got away third for driver Brett MacDonald, who stayed on the rail while The Joy Luck Club rolled the group through first-half fractions of :28.1 and :56.2.
The Joy Luck Club was still in charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:25, but Buttermilk Hanover was off the rail and driving from first over. Buttermilk Hanover then used a :28.3 closing quarter to prevail by a head over The Joy Luck Club in 1:53.4. Ride Away Shark, who was handicapped with the outside position, was third.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, the Melissa Lamoureux-trained six-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover-Bet Me Hanover won for the third time this season from 30 tries for partners Jeff Boyd and 8113564 Canada Ltd. She’s banked over $60,000 this year and more than $290,000 to date.
