The seven post didn't pose much of a problem for Youre Too Funny in Wednesday’s $9,000 Fillies And Mares Open Pace at Batavia Downs as she easily went gate-to-wire in posting a three-length win over Its Only Roni.
Leaving from the outside post in the seven-horse field, driver Jack Flanigen and Youre Too Funny immediately shot for the lead and reached it before hitting the eighth-pole. From there, it was "catch me if you can" and the remainder of the field had no response to the challenge.
The four-year-old American Ideal mare used fractions of :28, :57.1 and 1:26 in posting an impressive time of 1:54.4. A :28.4 final quarter over the fast track on the chilly night was too much for the rest of the field as Youre Too Funny extended her lead down the stretch. Its Only Roni (Jim McNeight) took second place while Romania Hanover (Shawn Gray) took the show spot.
Youre Too Funny has now won two straight in the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open and has finished no worse than second in her previous seven starts at this level.
Owned by Greg Capell of Batavia, NY and trained by Chris Naedele, Youre Too Funny has now earned $50,434 on the year and also has registered 10 wins on the campaign.
The action returns on Friday night with a 12-race program set to begin at 6:25 p.m. The $9,000 Open Trot is the feature with Under The Stars the morning line favourite at 5-2. Jim McNeight is scheduled to drive.
