Countess Stormont went wire-to-wire to win for the second straight time in the $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Trot on Saturday’s program at Georgian Downs.

With the four-year-old’s regular reinsman, Jonathan Drury, at the lines, Countess Stormont surged to the lead from the outside Post 6 and maintained her position through panels of :27.2, :58.1 and 1:27. Jtlady Strong (John Kovacs) attempted a first-over bid at three-quarters from third, but was unable to get within striking distance of the 1-5 favourite as Countess Stormont maintained her two-length lead to the wire in 1:56.2.

Desperatehousewife (Todd Ratchford) came three-wide around the final turn to pass Jtlady Strong in the stretch for the runner-up spot and the pocket-sitting Gostreet (Lyle MacArthur) was third.

The homebred daughter of Kadabra-Lady Orbitex is owned by Stormont Meadows of Long Sault, Ont. Her ninth win in 29 starts this season bumped her earnings to over $125,000. Countess Stormont has won 14 races lifetime and $262,564.
