Snack Attack licked his lips from the pocket before chipping down Caviart Seacrest and nipping that foe for a crisp 1:53.2 victory in the $14,500 Horses and Geldings Preferred Pace on Thursday, Oct. 1 at Flamboro Downs.
Ed Hensley scrambled the gelding out from post three to cross in front of two opponents for the lead entering the first turn, then relented to a marching Caviart Seacrest (Samuel Fillion) before the quarter in :27.1. Snack Attack held the pocket through middle panels of :56.1 and three-quarters in 1:24.1 while P L Ozzy (Brady Galliers) harassed the leader first-over. As Caviart Seacrest repelled the challenger at the top of the lane, Snack Attack ignited at the pylons but met firm resistance from the leader as they sprinted down the stretch. Snack Attack produced the greater late pace, however, and reached past Caviart Seacrest by a head at the line. P L Ozzy finished third.
Snack Attack, a Pennsylvania Stallion Series champion and Hempt Memorial Consolation winner last year, scored his fourth win in 19 starts at four as the Ashleigh Hensley trainee dropped from the Woodbine Mohawk Park conditioned ranks. Ed and Ashleigh Hensley of Dundas, Ont. own the son of Stay Hungry-Bridge To Tomorrow, who is now 10-for-51 lifetime with $358,206 in earnings. He paid $8.10 to win.
