Driver James Jungquist, who suffered a broken collar bone during an accident on November 21 in the ninth race at Fraser Downs, told Trot Insider that he will make his pari-mutuel return on Sunday afternoon
.
“My healing went great, I feel very good,” said the 31-year-old resident of Surrey, B.C. “I am set to return to driving on Sunday the 10th at Fraser Downs. It’s the last start for a three-year-old filly of my dad’s. He wants me to drive her before he turns her out for the winter.”
Jungquist will steer Estrella Roja in the first race for his father, David, who trains and co-owns with Donald Holmes.
While the injury put Jungquist’s driving career on hold for over month, he says that the time off has been somewhat of a blessing in disguise.
“Just before I crashed my family found out my mother, Mary, has breast cancer and needed a mastectomy so I was fortunate enough, if you call it that, to be there to take my mom to appointments and be there to support her...I also was able to spend more time with my kids than I have in a long time.”
