The connections of 2021 Breeders Crown champion Monte Miki will be presented the 2021 Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Special Recognition Award at the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, Jan. 15.
Velocity Standardbreds, the owner and breeder of Monte Miki, and trainer Mark Evers — all of Lebanon, Ohio — are being recognized for the extensive success the two-year-old pacing colt achieved during his freshman season.
Monte Miki won six of seven starts, including the $650,960 Metro Pace and the $600,000 Breeders Crown Final. As a freshman, Monte Miki took a mark of 1:50.4 and earned $665,276.
The son of Always B Miki won his first three starts of the year at Eldorado Scioto Downs, earning $16,100. In September, making his fourth start of his career, Monte Miki rallied from the back of the pack to win the Metro Pace.
Monte Miki capped his season winning the Breeders Crown in a driving rainstorm at the Meadowlands in October.
