Despite being sent postward as the longest shot on the board, Adkins Hanover led gate-to-wire for a 20-1 upset in Monday night's featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

The 10-year-old gelded son of Western Ideal gunned out from post six over the 'good' track and set fractions of :28, :58.2 and 1:27 en route to a two-length win in 1:57.1 for the father-son, trainer-driver team of Ron and Brett MacDonald. Favourite Pauly Wally (Scott Coulter) rallied off the cover of Shifty Norm (Paul MacKenzie) to finish second ahead of that foe.

The victory was the third straight and 43rd lifetime for Adkins Hanover, who returned $43.70 for a $2 win bet.

The career winner of nearly $250,000 is owned by Perry Burke of Grosse-Ile, Que.
