Insanity made two moves to victory in the $11,000 Preferred Trot over a wet surface labelled good and two seconds off at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
The eight-year-old gelding bolted into the first turn, opening up several lengths on his four opponents before Amigo Mio (Austin Sorrie) completed a march to the front at the quarter in :29.1. Samuel Fillion kept Insanity pocketed up as the parked-out Chip Happened (Travis Henry) chiselled away at Amigo Mio past the half in :58.3.
Chip Happened capitulated on the backstretch, leaving the door open for Insanity to slide out and attack Amigo Mio just past three-quarters in 1:29.2. Insanity swept past the leader on the final turn and drew clear by a length down the lane, finishing the mile in 2:00.4. Amigo Mio was second-best, followed by Fireinsidemyveins (Garrett Rooney).
The Ben Hollingsworth-trained Insanity has won two of his past four starts and hit the board in all five of his most recent outings. Michael Goldberg of Toronto, Ont. owns the son of Muscle Mass-Appleby Hall, who is now a 27-time winner with $288,804 in earnings through 168 appearances. The win price was $9.60.
