A pair of career earners of more than $500,000 highlighted the Woodbine Mohawk Park qualifiers on Friday (Jan. 6) with wire-to-wire performances by Machal Jordan and Arrakis.
Machal Jordan qualified with quarters buzzed in :28.4, :59.3 and 1:29.1 before winning by 7-1/2 lengths in 1:58.1. Scott Young was in the bike for trainer Kenneth Switzer.
Machal Jordan is a winner of 31 starts and $540,966. The 14-year-old son of Mach Three and the Cam Fella mare Marg N Jan is owned by Kenneth and Randy Switzer.
Arrakis followed in performance for trainer Francis Guillemette with Bob McClure in the bike. The 11-year-old Federal Flex son secured the top and never looked back, flowing through panels in :29, :59.1 and 1:29.1. Using a :29.4 final quarter, Arrakis crossed the wire in 1:59, 1-3/4 lengths over his competition.
Arrakis has accumulated $545,100 and 39 wins for owners Francis Guillemette and Robert Bernicky.
