The betting public was all over Sports Charm in Monday’s featured affair at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and the Rene Dion trainee didn’t disappoint his army of backers.

Sports Charm, who closed as the even-money choice in the $8,800 affair, was rushed to the position of command by driver Scott Coulter and they led the field through fractions of :28.1, :58.4 and 1:27.1 before scooting home in :29 to win by 4-1/4 lengths over Sports Jacket in 1:56.1. Good Eye Hawkeye was third.

The four-year-old son of Sportswriter-Western Charmer is owned by Dion and partners Susie Kerwood and Stanley Zipkin. It was the fourth lifetime win for the pacer who pushed his earnings over $40,000 with the victory.

Avatar J survived a tough trip and chased down the front-stepping favourite to win the $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers.

Brett MacDonald got away fourth with the Ron MacDonald trainee, who watched Ufdragons Rocket thrown down fractions of :28.3, :59.4 and 1:27.3. Avatar J came first-over on that foe nearing the half, and the battle raged on for the remainder of the mile. Avatar J used a :28.3 closing quarter to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Ufdragons Rocket in 1:56.1. Racemup was third.

Dean Larkin and Jody Sanderson share ownership on the six-year-old son of American Ideal-Arts Fantasy who won for the 15th time in his career. He recently surpassed $140,000 in lifetime earnings.
