It has been reported that the location of the former Hollywood Park racetrack in Inglewood, California could possibly be the next home for the National Football League’s St. Louis Rams.
An article by CBS Los Angeles states that the Rams’ owner, Stan Kroenke, has teamed up with the owners of the former Hollywood Park site for a proposed 80,000-seat stadium, part of an undertaking which would also see retail, office and residential aspects erected.
The Rams have the option of leaving the team's current home in St. Louis after the 2014-15 NFL season.
Terry Fancher, the founder of Stockbridge which is part of the proposal, was quoted as saying, “After nearly a decade of collaborating with Inglewood city leaders and residents on the redevelopment of Hollywood Park, we are excited to unveil an expanded plan that will bring a world-class sports and entertainment district to Hollywood Park.”
He went on to say, “We are committed to working with TKG to build a project that will put Inglewood back on the map as the home of truly great sports and entertainment venues.”
After 75 years of horse racing, Hollywood Park, which once hosted many of the sport's greatest Standardbred horses, ran its final race ever on December 22, 2013.
The CBS Los Angeles report states that there are already two other NFL stadium proposals in Los Angeles and that voters in Inglewood will have to approve a stadium project via ballot question this year.
