After two setbacks as favourite, For The Ladies N turned in an impressive 1:52.3 triumph for driver Ron Pierce in Monday’s $18,000 Mares Open Handicap at Dover Downs.
Pierce, not only guided For The Ladies N to her first win of 2015 in the female feature, he also drove Scootin For Joy to victory in the $13,500 Mares Winners Over pace, both owned by Harry von Knoblauch and trained by Peter Tritton.
For The Ladies N got away next-to-last next in the six-horse field. Pierce worked his way up on the outside to with a length of pacesetting favourite, Kiss Dont Bite. By mid-stretch, For The Ladies N, a daughter of Jeremes Jet-For The Don, was rolling and picked up her 14th career victory upping her lifetime earnings to $90,809. Mach A Wish was a game second, while Kiss Dont Bite edged Handsoffmycookie for third.
The same owner, trainer, driver combination of von Knoblauch, Tritton and Pierce struck in the previous race with Scootin For Joy.
The daughter of Western Paradise-Scooting Annie overtook leader Jeremes Sweetheart for a 1:54 score. Paradise Lost closed strongly to finish third,
