Campbell Continues Winning Ways

Following a record-breaking season at Charlottetown Driving Park in 2012, driver Marc Campbell returned to action at the half-mile oval on Saturday afternoon and continued to reel off the victories in dominant fashion.

Campbell won five races during CDP's 13-dash card on Saturday by a combined 22-1/4 lengths, including the $1,500 Open Handicap Trot with his own trainee Juliare. The nine-year-old mare was a wire-to-wire winner over the 'good' surface in 2:04.2 with more than half the field distanced after being interfered with by an early breaker.

The Winsloe, P.E.I. horseman earned back-to-back victories in the second and third races with Kaitlyn Rose ($4.50) for trainer Ralph Sweet and the Duane MacEachern-conditioned Life Savior ($2.30), who won by 11 wide-open lengths. He later won the sixth race with Four Starz Brass ($7.90) for trainer Mitch Tierney and the eighth race Open with Julaire ($6.70). Campbell then won the 11th race with Block Party ($12.90) for conditioner Darren Trainor to complete his five-bagger.

Campbell bested his own CDP single season win record in 2012 with 130 trips to victory lane at the Charlottetown oval. Not only did he lead in the win column, but he was the top money winning driver ($266,090) and trainer ($117,064) last year at CDP. Campbell's career-best season helped him earn his second consecutive O'Brien Award of Horsemanship nomination.
