Stonebridge Magnum squared off with and eventually knocked off five foes in Sunday evening’s main event at Rideau Carleton Raceway
.
Kyle Forgie rallied the Chance Stewart-trained son of The Panderosa to the two-length triumph, and that was music to the ears of the fans that backed the six-year-old to the tune of 14-1.
Stonebridge Magnum got away third while Its A Good Thing and Deuces And Jacks went toe-to-toe to the quarter pole in :27.2. Its A Good Thing had the lead through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:25.4, but the public’s top choice couldn’t carry his speed to the finish line. Stonebridge Magnum, who latched onto a second-over trip, kicked home in :29.1 en route to posting the 1:55.3 victory. My Old Friend John was second best, and Canbec Condor took home the show dough.
Yves Sarrazin of La Presentation, QC holds the ownership papers on the 23-time winner, who is now 2-for-4 this season. The consistent campaigner lifted his lifetime earnings to $196,160 in the process.
