Sheezgotdawoogies put an end to Im Tu Die For's win streak as she got up in the final strides to steal the spotlight in Fraser Downs' $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace on Friday, Jan. 29.
Sheezgotdawoogies was the first to fire off the gate from post four while 4-5 favourite Im Tu Die For (John Chappell) pressed on from the outside post six and cleared to command past the 28-second first quarter mark. Looking for her sixth straight victory, Im Tu Die For led the field through middle splits of :57.2 and 1:25.4. However, driver Brandon Campbell pulled Sheezgotdawoogies from the pocket at the top of the stretch and the six-year-old No Pan Intended mare prevailed by a neck over Im Tu Die For in 1:55.3. Prairie Illusion (Carl Sibiga) finished over one length behind in third.
Jim Marino trains and owns Sheezgotdawoogies, who followed up a string of six top-three finishes with the Friday feature win. She paid $6.40 to win as the 2-1 second choice in the wagering. Meanwhile, Campbell completed a (4-4) sweep of the early Daily Double, which paid $40.90, after his own trainee Meet Me Tonight ($5.70) won the opener.
