A report by the Truro Daily News states that there are currently opposing opinions in regard to how Truro Raceway should proceed into the future.
According to the article, the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission’s new chairman, Bruce Kennedy, has said that he does not think allowing Colchester County to take over ownership of the exhibition, which includes the Bible Hill track, is the best way to proceed.
The report explains that a recent vote by the NSPE Board was in favour of the county’s proposal. Although, there has since been changes to the Board, and therefore Kennedy believes that the Board should wait until its two vacant seats are filled before proceeding with any action.
The article states that the county’s proposal would see the municipality pay off the exhibition’s current debt to the Nova Scotia Farm Loan Board and assume ownership of the NPSE Commission’s deed.
Kennedy has states that the NSPE’s debt is more than just what is owed to the farm loan board, and therefore the deed shouldn’t be transferred around. The NPSE still owes various tracks money for simulcast payments. “And that’s why we’re saying, the debt is more than to the farm load board,” said Kennedy. “So how do these other people (the other tracks that a debt is still owed to) ever get paid?”
In a press conference earlier this week, Nova Scotia Agriculture Minister Keith Colwell made it clear that the province is not going to forgive the debt to the farm loan board.
