A full field of 10 was reduced to nine on the gate for Woodbine Racetrack’s $26,000 Preferred 2 Pace Saturday night at the Rexdale, Ont. oval. With an advantageous post and a charge ready for battle, driver Simon Allard and trainer Dave Menary reaped the benefits
.
The duo clicked in the event with five-year-old The Panderosa horse Panmunjom, who was the 3-1 second choice in the wagering when the wings pulled away.
After having gotten away in fourth prior to the opening quarter (:27.2), Allard and Panmunjom came off the cones and raced second-over through the opening haf-mile, which was clicked off in :55.3
Allard and his mount came out a little wider past the 1:23.1 three-quarters and had a clear path through the lane. The pair eventually got up on the pacesetting Hyperion Hanover (driven by Chris Christoforou), but had to fend off a strong late bid by Fire On The Water (Sylvain Filion).
Fire On The Water finished second, while Gotcha Covered (Paul MacDonell) came on to finish third.
Menary co-owns Panmunjom along with Putnam Training Centre Ltd. And Denis Breton.
