Fresh off of a campaign in which he increased his own Charlottetown Driving Park record for dash-wins in a season, trainer/driver Marc Campbell is looking forward to what 2017 has to offer – and if a new record is in the cards, well, Campbell will take that, as well.
Campbell notched 144 victories over the Charlottetown Driving Park in 2016 and posted 213 victories overall. Campbell’s stable was on fire yet again in 2016, as his starters won 66 of their 216 races, which helped his seasonal UTR settle at a scorching .433.
"I'm pretty excited for [2017],” Campbell has told the CBC. “We got our three-year-olds... the two-year-olds that all raced well [in 2016], they will be coming back. I'm really excited to get them back and going. And we got a nice group of two-year-olds that we broke and are starting to train them down...It should be a good year."
In reflecting on what he and his stable were able to accomplish, Campbell has said that much of the credit goes to his stock.
"It was a good year,” Campbell said. “It really helps when they race as good as they did all summer because that gives you a chance to get the wins and the record and that kind of thing."
Campbell has said that he is not the type to focus on records early in the season, but if the opportunity to break one is there, he will definitely take a shot at it.
"We'll just kind of plug away, and if we're getting close to the record (his CDP win record) we'll take a stab at it again."
