Over a ‘sloppy’ track rated two seconds slow, post-time favourites won nine of the 10 races Saturday, January 29 at Kawartha Downs. Although he wasn’t the apple of the punters’ eye, Tijuana Tag brought the sizzle from Post 9

.

With Reg ‘The Gasman’ Gassien calling the shots, Tijuana Tag took an off-the-pace approach to the dash. The six-year-old gelded son of Tagliabue was on the outside for the first two calls (:29.2, 1:01) before sticking a head in front for the lead at the 1:31.4 three-quarters call.

‘Tijuana’ and The Gasman were tenacious in the lane, as they persevered for the neck win in 2:02.3.

Although he didn’t go off as the post-time choice, Tijuana Tag, trained by Steve Gassien, did in fact receive some love from the wagering public who bet him down to 5-1.

He went on to return $12.50 on a successful $2 Win wager.
