The final live harness racing card of the season is set to go Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park
.
Expect to see something different. The card will offer four types of distance events, two trot divisions and half of the races will feature nine horse fields.
The afternoon's headliner carries a purse of $2,400 with another anticipated showdown between the Island's top guns. Pans O Silver, Island Jazzystar and red hot Yankee Sun will attempt to close out the season with a victory.
There will be stiff competition from rail sitter Fleet Officer, Canaco Paso moves in from the Willis Silliker stable of Summerside and Tanks A lot enjoys the luxury of Post 3. Kenny Arsenault won't be driving Yankee Sun this week. The Charlottetown trainer will guide his other stable star CL Eighty from Post 7, while Jason Hughes gets the call to drive Yankee Sun.
Trainer Ron Gass could sweep the trot divisions on the card. The Cornwall veteran will send out Chucaro Resera, Mia on Broadway and morning line favourite Big Sid in the second race, while Caliban Hanover, owned by Wendell MacDonald, Cornwall and trained by Gass, is favoured to win the other trot division.
The back-up class has a stellar line-up with stable-mates Electric Moves and Buck Barker taking on Beauty Spur, Mighty and Strong and Holguin, who turned in a three-length winning performance last week. Expect some real challenges from Victory Creed, Rebel Ryan and McHales Gravy. The Marathon Pan will make his first start in this division since arriving from the Ontario racing circuit.
First-race post time is 1:00 p.m.
