Taking the front midway through the mile, Sporty Tori slid clear of her competition to take the $9,400 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District going an added distance on Tuesday (Jan. 28).

Alphabet Queen cleared command from post 5 and took the field by the quarter in :28.2 with pylon-starter Sporty Tori sitting the pocket. Trainer-driver Gorden McKnight soon pulled Sporty Tori outside and circled to the front, supplying brief cover to Phoos Girl before a :58.1 half. Phoos Girl continued to press Sporty Tori uncovered towards three-quarters in 1:28.2 but began to falter into the final turn. Through the stretch Sporty Tori separated from Alphabet Queen by three-and-a-half lengths to win in 2:05 with Phoos Girl holding third.

A four-year-old mare by Sportswriter, Sporty Tori won her third race from four starts this season and her 13th from 21 overall, earning $77,748. She competes for M&s Racing Stable Inc. and paid $2.50 to win.
