Hoerdt's Hands Hot At Fraser

Trainer Kelly Hoerdt, with three wins already on the day, entered the $12,000 Open Pace on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Fraser Downs with the odds-on favourite Iwontdothatagain and 15-1 Three More Smiles. The latter set the pace and pulled the upset when holding off his stablemate by a nose in 1:54.1.

Hoerdt, driving Iwontdothatagain, secured the pocket from post one as Three More Smiles swept from the center towards the lead. Three More Smiles set an uncontested pace of :28, :57.2 and 1:25.4 with Iwontdothatagain close in tow heading to the lane. Hoerdt angled out of the pocket through the stretch and gave pursuit to Three More Smiles nearing the wire but the five-year-old Mach Three gelding stayed firm to the wire. Buddys Hope, off a rail trip, finished four lengths back in third.

Owned by Topnotch Stables, Three More Smiles won his 13th race from 69 starts, surpassing $100,000 in earnings. Paul Davies drove the $32.40 winner.

Through the card Hoerdt collected three other wins. He trains Noisy Nora ($9.20), who won by a head in 1:56.1, Peace Out Posse ($2.40), who won by three lengths in 1:53, and Lively Rocket ($23.20), who won by a length and a quarter in 1:54.4.
