The New York State Racing and Wagering Board has approved a one-year trial experiment, which will allow horsepeople to use cellular phones in designated areas within racing paddocks
.
According to a report by The Saratogian, the new rule will be in place in 45 days
“It’s a convenience more than anything," the article quoted horseman Mickey McGivern as saying. "If you’re racing out of town, you can talk to customers or speak to an assistant trainer.”
In the past, it was believed that cell phone use in the paddock could lead to the sharing of information which could affect the outcome of a race.
