Brawn Seelster extended his win streak to six at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday evening when he doubled up in the $16,500 Preferred Trot for trainer/driver Callie Rankin.
The seven-year-old Berndt Hanover gelding settled into fifth for Rankin at the quarter and grabbed the cover of Think Gold (Gord Brown) approaching the half-mile marker. Yankee No (Doug Brown), meanwhile, was free-wheeling on the front, hammering out splits of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.1, holding a two and a half-length cushion for the final quarter.
After the third marker lit up, Rankin moved Brawn Seelster off cover and he drew within three and half lengths of Yankee No with an eighth of a mile to trot. With a lethal final quarter in :28.4, Brawn Seelster collared Yankee No by a half-length in 1:57. Abbey Road C (Keith Jones) completed the top three.
Rankin also co-owns Brawn Seelster, who is perfect in three starts this season, with partner Jeff Goreski. The gelding is 8-1-1 in his last ten starts. Now a 36-time winner lifetime, he has earnings in excess of $380,000.
