A scratch-reduced field of five contested Fraser Downs’ featured $10,800 Open Pace on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 26), and it was the public’s even-money favourite, Boiling Oar ($4.20), who produced a gate-to-wire victory in 1:53.4.
Five combatants faced the gate after Peace Out Posse was scratched from the clash.
The Jim Marino-trained and Bill Tainsh-driven Boiling Oar went to the front from the get go, cut all the fractions (:28.2, :57.1, 1:25), and came home with a :28.4 final panel to secure the win.
The Kelly Hoerdt-driven Iwontdothatagain finished second and the Dave Hudon-driven Mach Steady finished third.
Boiling Oar, who is owned by JJJ Stables of Prince George, BC, tallied his 20th career victory with the effort, which was the first win of his 2020 campaign.
Boiling Oar has now banked $221,518 in career purse earnings.
