Banner performances are something trainer/driver Travis Cullen has enjoyed his fair share of in recent years at Northlands Park, and his three-win effort was certainly worth noting on Friday’s card.
Roof Daddy got the ball rolling for trainer/driver Cullen in the fifth race. The five-year-old son of Dragon Again drew clear to win by 5-1/4 lengths in 1:59.2. He later came back to capture Race 8 by a head with Sing Like An Angel in 1:58.4.
To cap off his productive day at the office, the O’Brien Award finalist then took down the top two spots in the $9,000 Fillies & Mares Open. Feelin Flush, a six-year-old daughter of Dragon Again, rallied to win by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:56.4 over stablemate Phoenician Gal, with Doober Hoozzitz taking home the show dough.
Cullen shares ownership on the six-year-old daughter of As Promised-Royals Gotta Go with partner Ken Hanson of Strathclair, Manitoba. Together they watched the mare win for the second time this season and for the 23rd time in his career. The lion’s share of the purse boosted his overall cash stash to $176,488.
The Cullen barn continues to hum right along as noted by the 20-for-48 record and the .564 UTR he’s managed to achieve with nearly the first month of racing for the 2014 season in the books.
