Favourite Callmeaftermdnight matched her career mark with a wire-to-wire effort in the $9,900 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Northlands Park on Friday night.
With the inside post advantage, Callmeaftermdnight and driver Philip Giesbrecht established the lead off the gate and kept post six starter Baby You Save Me (Paul Davies) parked out every step of the way as she rolled through panels of :28, :57.3 and 1:26.2.
As the field of seven approached the third quarter mark, (Rod Hennessy) fanned three-wide around the fading outsider. But as Callmeaftermdnight turned for home, it was the closing second over Doober Hoozzitz (John Chappell) and pocket-sitting Big Bang Theory (Gerry Hudon), last week's winner, who were her biggest threats. However, Callmeaftermdnight held them off to win by one length in 1:56.2. Doober Hoozzitz finished second with Big Bang Theory third along the rail.
Callmeaftermdnight, last week's runner-up, paid $5.90 to win. The six-year-old Cammibest mare earned her first victory of the year in three attempts.
She is trained by Joe O'Brien for owners Robert and Jeffrey Parish of Calgary.
