Two divisions of the Blizzard Series went postward Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park, and driver James MacDonald captured both $17,000 tilts thanks to wins with Shes On A Roll and Springbridgevision.
Shes On A Roll got away last before sweeping past her four rivals en route to a 1:57.2 triumph.
Bidforahug shot to the early lead and got away with sensible panels of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:29, but she couldn’t go the distance. MacDonald grabbed cover for Shes On A Roll in the backstretch, and they were fourth on the outside as the field moved into the final quarter of the contest. Shes On A Roll kicked off cover and fired home in :28 to win by a head over race favourite Charms Little Sis. Third prize went to Protect Blue Chip.
Sent off at odds of 8-1, the Blake MacIntosh-trained four-year-old daughter of Mystery Chase-Daiquiri Blue Chip posted her first win of the season while pushing her lifetime win total to seven. The career winner of $45,880 is owned by Alberta partners Catherine Reid and Harvey Jaeger.
Springbridgevision and MacDonald also used come-from-behind tactics to capture the second division in an eye-catching clocking of 1:55.
Cosette, Sand Artist and Lyons Hedgeabet all took turns on the lead through opening-half fractions of :30 and :59, with Lyons Hedgeabet still in command at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.3. Springbridgevision tracked cover going to the half before going first-over after race favourite Lyons Hedgeabet. Springbridgevision dug down deep in the lane and used a :28-second closing quarter to prevail by a neck over Lyonshedgeabet. Sand Artist was a lapped-on third.
Trainer Andrew Moore co-owns the three-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Stonebridge Vision with Allan Moore, Tommy Godfrey and Charles Farrell. The filly is now 3-for-3 this season after going 1-for-7 as a rookie. The lion’s share of the loot lifted her earnings to $33,773.
