Just One Day turned a pocket trip into a $7,500 payday thanks to her win in Tuesday’s $15,000 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and she came within one tick from matching her speed badge
in the process.
Sent out by the father and son tandem of trainer Dave Holliday and driver Ryan Holliday, Just One Day tucked into the two-hole behind My Rebelious Ways and watched that foe reach the quarter-pole in :28.4 before coming under attack from Striking Lindsey as the field moved in front of the grandstand. Those two battled to the mid-way point in :58.4 and the three-quarter pole in 1:27.4 before Striking Lindsey tired and backed away. Just One Day found clearance in the late going, and her :30.1 closing panel was good enough to earn her the one-length tally over My Rebelious Ways in 1:58.2. Stonebridge Spirit, who was last at the quarter pole, came on strong to finish third.
Sent off at odds of 8-1, Just One Day broke into the win column for the first time this season for owner/breeder Graham Jackson of Listowel, ON. The six-year-old daughter of Earl-Just One Night, who is now a 23-time winner to date, lifted her lifetime earnings to $162,152 with the tally.
