Arch Villain survived an overland journey to notch his fifth straight win and fastest yet for John MacMillan's hot stable on Sunday evening at Rideau Carleton Raceway
.
Reunited with regular reinsman Gord Brown, Arch Villain ($3.10) was parked the entire mile, but managed to get up in deep stretch to win his 11th race $8,500 claiming assignment in 1:58. The time of the mile matched his lifetime mark. The pocket-sitting Wave Board finished three-quarters of a length behind at the pylons while pacesetter Art Hustler ended up third.
The five-year-old The Panderosa gelding is now a perfect five-for-five since being purchased by Stephanie and Brian Cassell of Gloucester, Ont. in mid-December and entering MacMillan's care. Among his wins were a one and a quarter mile race at the end of December and a Rookie Vs. Champ Driver Challenge race with up-and-coming reinsman Todd Budd in the sulky last time out.
MacMillan sent out a total of three winners during the 15-race program. His other two were three-year-old pacers Talk Back ($11.60) in the first and Riding With P ($6.60) in the 10th.
