A Ps Money Maker Bests Open Mares

A Ps Money Maker put her best foot forward on Friday evening rallying from second over to win the $44,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack in a new mark of 1:51.1 for trainer Travis Umphrey

The 2009 ASHA Award nominee in the four-year-old Alberta mare category stepped up into the Open class at Woodbine for the first time with much success. She got away sixth in the seven-horse field in rein to Rick Zeron while 2-1 favourite Southwind Madonna (Lyle MacArthur) fired off a :26.1 opening quarter and :55.3 half.

Longshot Dangerous Mind (Mario Baillargeon) was the first to move as the field passed the half-mile marker with A Ps Money Maker following her cover through three-quarters in 1:24.1. A Ps Money Maker then unleashed a :26.2 final frame and pushed ahead of her rivals in deep stretch. The 7-2 third choice prevailed by a length over Southwind Madonna and the pocket-sitting Marietta Hall (Mark MacDonald).

The five-year-old daughter of Cardmaster Hanover-Mint Kondition is now two-for-three this year for owners Terry Hamilton of Lethbridge, Joe Tinelli of St. Albert and Shir Win Racing Stable of Edmonton, Alta. A Ps Money Maker, a winner of the 2008 Three-Year-Old Alberta-Sired Filly ASHA Award, now boasts 15 victories lifetime and $341,228 in earnings.
