No Ontario Select Yearling Sale In 2023

Organizers with the Ontario Select Yearling Sale have announced the sale will not resume this year.

“Winbak Farm started the Ontario Select Yearling Sale in 2020 to allow bidders to still see the yearlings and have as much of a normal sales experience as we could with the COVID restrictions in place,” said Pat Woods, Winbak Farm of Canada Manager.

The Ontario Select Yearling Sale was held at Winbak Farm of Canada and held for three consecutive years (2020, 2021 and 2022).

“We would like to thank the breeders and yearling buyers who supported us having the Ontario Select Yearling Sale at Winbak Farm Of Canada,” said Woods. “We wish them continued success and hope to see them at the London Yearling Sale in 2023. Now that the London Yearling Sale is back in person and had such a successful season in 2022, we are excited to join.”

“Winbak Farm is proud to be a part of the 2023 London Classic Yearling Sale and look forward to working with Greg Blanchard and his team,” said Joe Thomson, Winbak Farm Owner. “We have decided to reunite with the London Yearling Sale since COVID protocols are lessened and the sale is back live at the Western Fair Agriplex, which is a wonderful venue.”

The London Classic Yearling Sale will be held on Oct. 17 and 18.

“We are pleased to welcome the Winbak Farm consignment back to London this Fall,” said Greg Blanchard, London Classic Yearling Sale Manager. “After a successful first year, we are excited to be able to grow our sale offerings and have all of the top breeders and consignors under one roof for year two.”

The Winbak Farm yearling lineup can now be found at the farm's website.

“Winbak Farm has continually been a leading breeder in the Ontario Sires Stakes program,” said James Ladwig, Yearling Manager. “The 2023 Ontario-sired yearlings already look strong and ready to race.”

The 2023 Winbak Farm Ontario-eligible yearlings are sired by: Archangel, Betterthancheddar, Bettors Delight, Green Manalishi S (first crop), Jimmy Freight, McWicked, Muscle Mass, My MVP, Resolve, Shadow Play, Sportswriter, Stag Party, The Bank, and Trixton (first Ontario crop). Sale assignments will be posted closer to sales time.

“We thought Greg Blanchard and his team did a wonderful job with the management of the sale,” said Jack Burke, Winbak Farm General Manager. “We plan on bringing a strong Ontario-Sired lineup to the sale.”

“The Ontario Sires Stakes program is one of my favourites,” said Thomson. “You don’t want to miss this sale and the lineup that we will be selling.”
