Cambest Kisser Ends Pinner's Streak; Injuries Avoided In First Race Mishap

Cambest Kisser, with catch-driver Kenny Arsenault in the bike, won the afternoon feature at Red Shores on Saturday, halting favourite Pinner's win streak at eight straight.

The CDP oval was rated as 'good' with a three second variant due to rain that fell most of the week.

Arsenault engineered the winning trip aboard the Jason Hughes trainee Cambest Kisser by coasting away fifth while a front end battle ensued between Miracle Matts (Corey MacPherson) and Pinner (Marc Campbell) en route to the opening quarter in a blistering :28.1 over the off track.

Once Miracle Matts made the lead, Campbell put the Brian Ladner-trained Pinner back on the point with the half-mile reached in :59.1 and the three-quarter station charted in 1:29.4 as pressure was being applied to the leader from Panacotta (Blaine Baglole) on the outside.

Cambest Kisser, owned by Donald and Steven MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I, came flying from the backfield to catch a fading Pinner in the stretch for the one length victory. The mile time was 2:01. Miracle Matts hung on for third.

Buckling Banbury won the Open Trot in 2:04.2 for Corey MacPherson and co-owners Bill, Brian and Blake Andrew. Fraction-setter Zip The Lip (Brian MacPhee) was second with Delta Dental (Walter Cheverie) third.

Campbell and MacPherson recorded driving doubles.

A scary situation unfolded in the first race when one of the reins broke on Glencove Victor just as the wings folded on the starting gate. Driver Mike McGuigan tried to control the runaway horse, even attempting to reach up and grab the rein while going along the outside surface of the track. McGuigan had to jump off the bike just seconds before the horse crashed through the outside fence. Remarkably, Glencove Victor walked away without any injuries. McGuigan returned to driving duty after the incident.
