Fans put their faith in Trust The Artist on Saturday afternoon at Northlands Park and with trainer Kelly Hoerdt in tow, the five-year-old pacer did not disappoint using a late-stretch rally to prevail in the $15,000 Open
.
Last week’s winner, Lilsharkshooter (Jeff Stone), was the quickest off the gate putting up the first quarter in a swift :27.1 but that one gave way to Tajma Hall (Jean Francois Gagne) who applied early pressure from the outside.
Meanwhile, Trust The Artist and Hoerdt sat back in third as the field rolled past the half in :56.3 and three-quarters in 1:25.3. Trust The Artist kicked into action in the stretch and with a :28.2 final quarter, the son of Real Artist scored his first win of 2009 in 1:54.3 by a length and three-quarters.
Tajma Hall stayed for second and Lilsharkshooter was a close third.
Trust The Artist picked up his 21st lifetime win and pushed his earnings to $339,547 for Hoerdt, who owns the bay with Blair Corbeil and Mike McAllister of Beaumont, Alta.
