News out of Sweden indicates that multiple stakes winner Nuncio, who was a half-length from winning trotting's Triple Crown in 2014, will not be racing in North America for his four-year-old campaign.
Swedish news outlet Travronden is reporting that Nuncio's owner, Stefan Melander of Stall Tz, has mapped out a campaign for the trotter that would see him race exclusively in Sweden, including Sweden's Breeders Crown, Kungapokalen and Sprintermästaren.
"I had several options to choose from and found that this was perhaps the best," Melander told Travronden.
Over the past two seasons, Nuncio has been one of harness racing's most consistent horses. Even with three different trainers on his lines, the son of Andover Hall-Nicole Isabelle was never worse than third (and only third once) in 27 starts. Nuncio won 11 of 17 races as a three-year-old, including two jewels in the Trotting Triple Crown -- the Kentucky Futurity and Yonkers Trot.
“He’s certainly one of the most consistent (horses) that I’ve been around,” said driver John Campbell of Nuncio. “He just goes out and does his work."
There is a possibility that Nuncio may return to North America in 2016, but those plans would be solely for stallion duty at this point.
