According to a report, Delaware Governor Jack Markell, who is up for re-election this year, has switched his position from pushing for more casinos to shoring up the state's 'struggling' racinos

.

An article on delawareonline.com explains that after-tax revenues from Delaware Park, Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway have slipped amid increased gaming competition from neighbouring states.

The report states that at the end of the third quarter of 2011, slots revenues at Delaware casinos were down more than 13 per cent compared with 2010.

"I think the time is coming when all of us in the state are going to have to take a real objective look at where the casinos are and what role the state needs to play in order to help ensure the future vitality of this industry in Delaware," the report has quoted Senator Brian Bushweller as saying.
