Storyeum (John Abbott) led a single file field of six in post position order through early fractions of :26.3 and :55 before Red Star Tomahawk (James Burke) made the first over sacrifice from third with Wrangler Hitech (Keith Clark) and Cash Account, under the guidance of Ed Hensley, following.
The 4-5 favourite continued to lead past three-quarters in 1:23.3 and heading for home, but around the far turn, Cash Account fanned wide and came charging home in :29-seconds to prevail over the pacesetter, who suffered broken equipment late in the game. Cash Account, the 4-1 third choice, stopped the clock in 1:53.2, winning by one and a half lengths. Stiletto Hall (Don Monkman, Jr.) finished third off a pocket trip.
