After topping the North American standings for wins last year, veteran pacer Surrealist is off to a perfect start in 2017 as he made it two-for-two in the top class at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon (January 15).
Trained and driven by Paul Langille, Surrealist won this week's $1,475 Winners Over Pace in 2:00.1 over the 'good' track for owner Dana Getto of New Waterford, N.S.
After gapping in third through the first half-mile, the 11-year-old Modern Art gelding tracked Allstar Man's move as he swept to the lead and then went by that foe down the stretch to win by one and three-quarter lengths. Allstar Man settled for second and Dinger Two finished third after leading through fractions of :29.3, 1:00 and 1:31.2.
Just prior to the afternoon feature, fans and friends joined the popular philanthropic pacing mare Barona Lilac in the winner's circle for her retirement ceremony. The Darren Crowe trainee earned more than $8,500 for local charities over the last two years through the ‘Cheering For Charity’ program.
Truro Raceway has added a live harness racing program to its schedule for Sunday, January 22, with post time set for 1 p.m.
