Ryan Campbell, 25, of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, will replace Darren Crowe as one of Nova Scotia’s Driving Representatives in the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship

.

The Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Association voted unanimously yesterday to invite Campbell to replace Crowe after it was determined that they had made an oversight in selecting the driving representatives.

The Industry Associations are responsible for selecting the reps for the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship and initially Darren Crowe was invited along with Danny Romo and Robert Laffin to represent Nova Scotia. The selection process is based on a number of criteria including wins and earnings, the ability to be a good ambassador, etc.

Ryan Campbell was the leading driver in wins at both Inverness and Northside Downs. He drove 84 winners last year and horses to over $56,000 in purse earnings.

“Both Darren and Ryan would make outstanding representatives for Nova Scotia but our committee made an error that was brought to our attention. We felt it was important to rectify it. We apologize profusely to Darren Crowe, and regret any inconvenience this has caused to Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park, and to Standardbred Canada,” explained Steve Morton, a member of the NSHRIA.

The Atlantic Regional Driving Championship takes place at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday, January 22 with a 1:00 p.m. post time. The top two finishers will advance to the National Driving Championship, scheduled for Saturday, May 7, also at Red Shores.
