Adamsville Road snapped the five-race winning streak of Oh Look Magic with a pocket-tripping victory in the $50,000 Open Handicap Trot at Miami Valley Raceway on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Adamsville Road and driver Luke Hanners left alertly from post five and settled into a loose pocket trip behind the heavily favoured Oh Look Magic, a winner of 11 of his last 13 starts in Open company.  The field settled in and remained single file as Sam Widger and Oh Look Magic commanded the tempo past a quarter and half of :28.2 and :56.2, respectively. As the group turned onto the backside into the full force of the gusty, wintry conditions, Oh Look Magic's three-length lead began to slowly shrink as Adamsville Road closed in, tightening up to the helmet of Widger past three-quarters in 1:25.

At that station, Hanners gave the right line a tug and out came Adamsville Road to begin his challenge for the lead, inching closer throughout the final turn. As the duelling leaders swung for home, Adamsville Road drew closer to Oh Look Magic and took a short lead, but Oh Look Magic kept battling. He closed back in before eventually fading in the final steps as Adamsville Road put away his foe by a half-length in 1:54.1. Sayinwhatimthinkin (Trevor Smith) rounded out the triactor.

The win was the fourth for Adamsville Road in his last eight starts, with the four defeats coming as place finishes. The seven-year-old son of Swan For All out of She Wore Red increased his lifetime earnings to $718,507 with 28 wins in 104 starts and handed John Melsheimer his first training win of the year. The gelding is owned by Mel Rose Stable and Joe Nesselroad. He paid $13 to win.

Brett Miller led all drivers with three wins on the 14-race card while Jeremy Smith, Luke Hanners, David Miller and Kayne Kauffman all picked up doubles. Jason Brewer and Chris Beaver had training doubles.

Miami Valley returns to action on Thursday to close out its week. The card will feature a Pick 5 with a carryover of $5,013 starting in Race 2. Post time for tomorrow's card is 4 p.m.
