The Dean Nixon-trained Pauly Wally made a strong push in the late stages of 2018 and as a result finished the year with a trio of top-two finishes, and it’s been more of the same for the pacer since the calendar switched over to 2019.
Pauly Wally endured a first-over trip for driver Scott Coulter en route to capturing Monday’s $9,000 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Away fourth in the early stages of the added distance affair, Pauly Wally began his first-over grind as the field headed to the half. Tuition Money laid down the opening quarter in :27.4 before Red John pulled the pocket and marched to the top. He cruised through middle fractions of :58.1 and 1:27.2, but he couldn’t fend off the determined Pauly Wally in the closing strides.
Pauly Wally kept on coming and eventually worked his way to the win by three-quarters of a length over race favourite Red John in 2:04. Littlebitaswagger took home the show dough in the mile and a sixteenth affair.
Tony Basile and Andy Atlas share ownership on the six-year-old son of Shadow Play-Armbro Brio. The gelding is a 17-time winner who has stashed away earnings in excess of $130,000 to date.
