"The handle is up, which is contrary to the trend - especially in Canada. What's really exciting is that Fredericton is up 53 per cent with simulcast up 38 per cent."

On today's Trot Radio episode, Norm Borg talks to Horse Racing New Brunswick's President Bob Roach who notes that the increased handle for New Brunswick in 2010 will help translate into a 2011 purse increase for Exhibition Park, Fredericton Raceway and the Woodstock Fair races.

One of Roach's main projects at the helm of HRNB will be a grandstand for EPR.

"Our first priority for New Brunswick is we need a grandstand in Saint John and we need improvements to the facilities," stated Roach. "We certainly recognize that in Saint John our facility is just not up to standards. We're working hard to work with some partners to improve the facility, but while that may take a fair amount of time we're not standing still."

Roach also discussed new teletheatre projects, simulcasting and other ways that HRNB is making their harness racing product more accessible to the betting public. The full interview is available below.
