Keeneland Numbers Not Promising

While the Tuesday session of Keeneland's January Horses of All Ages Sale showed some promise, Wednesday's numbers brought the sale back down to earth

Keeneland sold 211 horses on Wednesday for gross receipts of $2,560,100, down 42.39 per cent from 2009 when 230 horses brought $4,443,800. Average price of $19,321 decreased 37.20 per cent from last year’s $19,321. The median price of $5,500 was down 45 per cent from $10,000 in 2009.

Through the first three days, Keeneland has sold 617 horses for $20,553,900, down 19.51 per cent from last year’s $25,535,400 when 642 horses sold. The average of $33,313 was down 16.25 per cent from $39,775 in 2009, while the median of $14,000 decreased 30 per cent from last year’s $20,000.

The January Sale continues through Friday, with sessions beginning daily at 10:00 a.m. The entire sale is streamed live at keeneland.com.
