All eyes were on race favourite Southwind Ozzi in Thursday’s $27,500 Open Pace at Dover Downs, but it was Island Of The Sea upsetting that foe thanks in large part to a perfect, pocket trip mapped out by driver George Napolitano, Jr.
Island Of The Sea got away second behind Southwind Ozzi who carved out fractions of :26.3, :55.2 and 1:23. Island Of The Sea rallied late and used a :27.3 closing panel to win by three-quarters of a length over a late-driving JJ Flynn. Southwind Ozzi faded late and settled for the show dough.
Trainer Eric Ell shares ownership on the five-year-old son of Always A Virgin-Trinity Islands with Lisa Ell of Denton, MD. The 15-time winner is quickly closing in on $200,000 in career earnings.
