Making just the second start of her four-year-old campaign, Cusdmagicdragon matched the track record for older pacing mares at Fraser Downs on Friday night (January 11).
Cusdmagicdragon equalled the 1:52.2 track record that was set by Furious Five in 2008 and also recently matched by Thats It this past November.
Making her move from third in the $12,000 Mares Open Pace, Cusdmagicdragon swept by pacesetter Tahiti Seelster (:26.3, :55.1, 1:24) heading towards the final turn and drew off to the two-length victory over her tracking stablemate Blue Grotto. Record co-holder Thats It was sent postward as the 2-1 favourite and finished third off a pocket trip.
Jim Marino drove the winner for trainer Kelly Hoerdt, who shares ownership with breeders Blair and Erna Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta.
The stakes-winning Custard The Dragon-Rockumentary mare shaved two full seconds off her lifetime mark and is now two-for-two competing in the Open ranks this year.
Lifetime, she has earned 11 wins with 10 other top three finishes from 29 starts. Tonight's victory pushed her bankroll over the $200,000 mark.
A four-time Friday winner, Hoerdt is off to a fantastic start to the new year with 10 victories from his first 13 starts.
